About

I was born in Seoul in 2004 and am currently studying at Central Saint Martins. My nickname, Kaya, comes from a period in high school when I became obsessed with kaya jam.

Some things become more meaningful the longer we stay with them. This belief shapes the way I think about making. I am interested in creating work that unfolds slowly—work that invites reflection and continues to exist in someone's mind after the encounter has ended.

Making has never been about certainty or talent. It has always been about necessity. What matters to me is the act of continuing to make, to experiment, and to learn through failure. At this stage of my life, I see failure not as something to avoid, but as something essential to the process.

This is also why I began making art. Not because I was good at it, but because of how it made me feel—the sense of immersion, of becoming someone else, of moving toward something I couldn't yet name. Making has become my way of understanding both myself and the world around me, not by arriving at answers, but by remaining curious through the process. This belief leads me to value process over efficiency, materiality over speed, and sustained attention over instant communication.

I choose to make work that resonates deeply with a few rather than appealing to everyone. Even if that recognition comes slowly, I believe it is worth the wait.
